We have woven Water Lily Pond, part of Monet's renowned series of 18 works that capture the serene beauty of the lotus pond with the iconic Drum Bridge as its centerpiece. The original painting is housed in the National Gallery in London.
Using Nishijin-ori's sophisticated shading technique known as "shimikomi," which beautifully renders shimmering water and translucent light, we have reproduced Monet's delicate brushstrokes by weaving approximately 18 different colors of weft yarns against a moss green warp. The weaving artfully captures the flat Drum Bridge as seen from the front and the depth of the lake surface as viewed from above.
Unlike the original painting, where the reverse side of the water lily is highlighted with dark red to contrast with the green, our Nishijin-ori version uses rust vermilion and pink to create a more subdued, sophisticated atmosphere. This unique approach not only enhances the artwork's elegance but also reflects the refined sensibilities of Nishijin-ori artisans.
Impressionist art is immensely popular, yet high-end textile reproductions are quite rare. This exclusive piece stands out as a luxurious and refined take on Monet’s masterpiece, adding a distinctive touch of elegance to any space.
