Collection: Nishijin Ultra-Fine Woven Maru-Obi / Nishijin Brocade Tapestry
Our Maru-obi showcases the pinnacle of traditional Japanese aesthetics and luxury, standing in stark contrast to the understated elegance of Wabi-Sabi culture. Celebrated in the opulent court culture for over 1000 years, Nishijin-ori artistry has evolved to produce the finest possible Obi, richly adorned with pure gold and platinum leaf. The creation of each Maru-obi involves over 10 specialized craftsmen, each an expert in their field. From the initial design and creation of the intricate weaving pattern chart (detailing all individual weaving points) to the meticulous dyeing and precise weaving, the process reflects an extraordinary dedication of time and resources to produce a single obi.
The Maru-obi draws inspiration from a wealth of traditional motifs, the beauty of nature, and iconic artworks. Each piece is not only a wearable art form but also designed to be hung or framed, allowing you to appreciate it as a museum-quality artwork in your own home, narrating the rich and varied stories of Japanese culture.
We weave Maru-obi not only to be worn but also as luxurious decorations. As a tapestry, it can be hung, framed, or used as a table runner. Unlike regular obi, Maru-obi is wider and more decorative, designed for formal occasions. With abundant use of gold, platinum, and radiant designs, it exudes a strong, captivating presence.
Our Maru-obi features the finest silk yarns, classified as '6A grade' from Bratac, a Brazilian company renowned for supplying nearly 90% of its silk to a famous French luxury brand. When dyed with meticulous care, these yarns maintain their vibrant colors exceptionally well, providing a luxurious and rich texture that enhances the overall beauty of the work. Complementing this, the gold and platinum leaf used exceed 999‰ purity, with each piece incorporating genuine gold leaf accompanied by a certificate of authenticity, ensuring unparalleled opulence and refinement.
