A swirling night sky and towering cypress trees. This striking "Starry Night," with its deep blue color dominated by a yellow crescent moon and shining stars, was painted by Van Gogh while he was hospitalized in a mental hospital.
The powerful brush strokes and skillful colour expression are woven in detail using Nishijin-ori techniques. While the thickness of the paint may appear to be achieved by layers of thick yarns, the surface feels surprisingly smooth. By weaving together 13 colours of yarns in pairs, a sense of depth and three-dimensionality is conveyed through color.
There is also a rendition of Starry Night created with phosphorescent threads, where the glowing stars in the darkness offer a unique perspective on the charm of this masterpiece.
Recent Discovery: Recent scientific studies have revealed fascinating insights into the swirling patterns of Van Gogh's "The Starry Night." Researchers have discovered that the painting’s intricate, dynamic swirls closely resemble the mathematical patterns of turbulence found in nature, a phenomenon described in fluid dynamics decades after Van Gogh’s time!
