Rethinking Japanese Luxury (Prologue)
Share
It is often said that Japan lacks globally recognized luxury brands. However, there are initiatives such as the "Jaxury" concept and awards, and in the realm of Nishijin weaving, HOSOO appears to be a brand that embodies a distinctly Japanese approach to luxury on the world stage.
On the other hand, recent trends in Japan’s luxury market targeting the affluent seem, regrettably, to reflect both material and spiritual impoverishment in the country. High prices, the finest materials, the best craftsmanship, and aesthetic sensibility—yet there seems to be something more that defines true luxury.Since our company also embraces the term "luxury," we would like to take a moment to reflect more deeply on the relationship between Japanese traditional craftsmanship and luxury. This will be a personal blog, but I hope you’ll join me in exploring these thoughts.
