Inspired by Ogata Kōrin's esteemed “Red and White Plum Blossom Screen", a National Treasure, this piece is masterfully woven with genuine gold leaf.
The original pair of folding screens have been ingeniously unified into a single artwork. A radiant gold leaf backdrop sets the stage, with aged, withered white plum trees gracefully extending their gnarled branches on the left, while the right side bursts with the vibrant blossoms of youthful red plum trees. A stylized depiction of flowing water elegantly bisects the scene, imparting a sense of grandeur and continuity. The striking interplay of light and shadow, stillness and motion, and the juxtaposition of youth against age are profoundly articulated.
Our rendition features a subtly aged gold background, achieved through the integration of muddy gold leaf, imparting an antiqued patina. The water stream is intricately woven with gold leaf and green weft yarns, resulting in a refined sepia tone. Delicate details such as the plum blossoms rendered without delineating lines, the "tarashikomi" technique applied to the tree trunks, and the meticulous brushstrokes of the water ripples are all faithfully reproduced, showcasing the intricate craftsmanship of this masterpiece.
