We have woven all 55 pieces of Utagawa Hiroshige's "The Fifty-three Stations of the Tōkaidō," which includes the 53 stations as well as the starting point at Nihonbashi and the ending point at Sanjō Ōhashi. The production took about a year and a half, and all pieces were crafted with genuine gold leaf. Below are just a few highlights, but all 55 pieces are available for purchase.
A Snowy Evening at Kambara Station
One of the masterpieces of the Fifty-Three Stations of the Tokaido. Kambara is an area where it rarely snows, so here depicted is an imaginary snow scene. Despite the snowy night scene, don't you feel the warmth and beauty of the light amidst the cold and silence? The use of gold leaf on the raincoats and conical hats of the figures on the right likely represents the faint brightness and warmth of the Odawara lanterns they might be carrying. Additionally, platinum leaf is woven into the snow in the darkness of the night, and its whiteness and quiet radiance seem to exude a unique atmospheric effect distinct from that of the original woodcut print.
