We have woven all 55 pieces of Utagawa Hiroshige's "The Fifty-three Stations of the Tōkaidō," which includes the 53 stations as well as the starting point at Nihonbashi and the ending point at Sanjō Ōhashi. The production took about a year and a half, and all pieces were crafted with genuine gold leaf. Below are just a few highlights, but all 55 pieces are available for purchase.
Hara: Mount Fuji in the Morning
Hara was a small post town located in present-day Numazu City, known as a prime viewing spot for Mount Fuji. In this depiction, Mount Fuji is portrayed as if bursting out of its frame, emphasizing its grandeur.
The brilliance of the morning sun reflected on the snow-capped Fuji is woven using platinum leaf, capturing the radiance of Mount Fuji at sunrise, while the vivid Hiroshige blue used for the kimonos of the figures depicted in the foreground is beautifully recreated. Also, please appreciate the meticulous craftsmanship of Nishijin-ori, which perfectly expressed the gradient of the sky , depicted in the original using the woodblock printing technique called 'ichimonji-bokashi
