Inspired by Itō Jakuchū’s celebrated Sunrise Phoenix, currently housed in the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, this exceptional Nishijin-ori hanging scroll pays homage to the artist’s vision of rebirth and immortality. With thirteen meticulously selected silk colors and pure gold leaf, this woven masterpiece brings the mythical phoenix to life with extraordinary depth and dimension.
To evoke the warmth of dawn and a three-dimensional effect in the sun, our artisans have applied layers of rich vermilion and gold leaf, creating a radiant light that captures the morning’s first glow as it illuminates the phoenix’s flight. The bird’s soft, immaculate tail feathers are rendered with exquisite texture, each plume glowing under the sun’s brilliance. The phoenix’s head, elegantly twisted and surrounded by swirling feathers, embodies the vibrant movement and energy of this auspicious symbol.
This luxurious interpretation transforms Jakuchū’s original into a refined textile artwork, marrying the traditions of Nishijin-ori with a timeless masterpiece. The Sunrise Phoenix stands as both a tribute to Jakuchū’s genius and a unique symbol of prosperity and harmony.
