We have woven all 55 pieces of Utagawa Hiroshige's "The Fifty-three Stations of the Tōkaidō," which includes the 53 stations as well as the starting point at Nihonbashi and the ending point at Sanjō Ōhashi. The production took about a year and a half, and all pieces were crafted with genuine gold leaf. Below are just a few highlights, but all 55 pieces are available for purchase.
Shower at Shōno
Shōno was a post town in Ise Province, present-day Mie Prefecture, but there is nothing recognizable about it in the painting; instead, people are shown running in all directions along a hilly road, trying to avoid a sudden shower. The platinum leaf woven into the rain gives an even colder feeling to the bold depiction of the rain, and the gold leaf used on the umbrellas of the people trying to avoid the rain makes the people stand out even more.
