News from Nishijin April (1) Cherry Blossoms in Kyoto

The cherry blossoms in Kyoto are almost in full bloom. The city was crowded with many people on the weekend. The photo shows the Okazaki Canal, which is about 90% in bloom. The Kamo River will probably be in full bloom in a few more days. However, the weather is getting a little worse, so I can only pray that it won't rain.

Even after the Somei-Yoshino cherry blossoms have finished blooming, you can still enjoy the Goi-Kou cherry blossoms (at Ninna-ji Temple and the Kyoto Imperial Palace) and the Ukon cherry blossoms (at Shiramine Shrine and Hirano Shrine) in the Nishijin area! Horikawa-dori is quite a sight to see.

*Goi-Kou cherry blossoms are not pink but green, and Ukon cherry blossoms are gentle yellow. They are very rare!
