Visit to Koho Nishikiori Workshop

Recently, we had the privilege of visiting the prestigious Nishikiori studio, KOHO. Remarkably, they continue to use hand-powered Jacquard looms for their weaving—a practice they maintain with unwavering dedication. Due to this deep commitment to traditional techniques, they do not identify as Nishijin weavers, but rather call themselves Nishikiori weavers, distinguishing their craft. Their reputation has led to commissions from renowned individuals, allowing them to preserve and uphold the art form.
Assuming Asagi Brocade has taken that level of precision to the limit; Koho Nishikori's work is original art using an unlimited number of colored threads, possible only with handlooms. Each person has their own aesthetic sense and passion, and they determine their own path forward, striving to reach the pinnacle of their field. Perhaps this is the world of Kyoto textiles.
